During our literacy study this week, we will be working very hard on our Fairy Tale presentations to prepare for our showcase on Friday, March 16th. If you have not yet RSVP-ed for this exciting event, please email me to let me know if you will be able to attend. In Science, we will begin our unit about sound in full force. We will be inquiring into what creates sound, and how our bodies hear and interpret sounds. In Math, we are going to begin working with mixed practice (addition and subtraction) with large numbers. Please make extra time to help with homework this week if you can, and please read my special note about Math homework after the Homework Schedule.
This week we will be celebrating Read and Feed across America in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. We are collecting canned foods for donation. Students will also be celebrating by showing their school spirit with different outfits.

Looking Ahead:
This Week’s Specials: Monday: Science Lab, Tuesday: PE, Wednesday: Technology, Thursday: Music, Friday: Spanish
Reading: Please read for at least 20 minutes each night. Remember that really reading is the number one thing each of us can do to grow our minds and become excellent readers! If you want an extra reading challenge, use your reading time at home to prepare a book talk about a book you have really enjoyed. Let Ms. Thompson know if you have a book talk that you want to present to the class. *Remember to record your reading in the Reading Log section of your agenda.
This week, students will also write a letter to a fairy tale character. Please check the homework folder for more information. Letters are due this Wednesday!
Math: Monday: Relating addition and subtraction, Tuesday: Addition and Subtraction Practice, Wednesday: Buying with 200 cents, Thursday: Adding On
A special note about Math homework: From time to time, your child may receive a homwork that is altered from what you see here. So that each student gets more practice on each objective at their personal level of readiness, I will begin tweaking homework assignments. Some nights, your child might work on a journal entry or “Math Write” to show their thinking. Other nights, he or she might have altered problems on the assigned homework page. All changes that I make will be done in attempt to best support each child’s individual growth with the concept.
